Anesthesia Associates of East Alabama is a physician group affiliated exclusively with East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika Alabama.  The anesthesiologists provide comprehensive around the clock anesthesia coverage for surgical procedures at East Alabama Medical Center.  Anesthesia is provided for the following specialties:  General and Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Obstetric and Gynecological, Orthopedic, Urology, Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Surgery.  The physicians also provide acute and chronic pain management services for East Alabama Medical Center Pain Clinic.

Various types of anesthetics administered include General, Spinal, Epidural, Monitored Anesthesia Care, Regional Nerve Blocks, Local Anesthesia or a combination of anesthesia types.  Anesthesia is administered in the Care Team Approach with the anesthesiologist medically directing a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA).

The group started in 1969 as G. Earle Fuller, M.D. was the first board certified anesthesiologist at what was then known as the Lee County Hospital. In 1987 Doctors P. George Purves and John D. McArthur joined the staff as cardiothoracic anesthesiologists as an open heart program was started. The practice has continued to expand over the years as  surgical services and specialties represented at East Alabama Medical Center have increased.  Currently the six anesthesiologists are assisted by a team of seventeen certified registered nurse anesthetists. All the physicians have attained Board Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
